~That was the headline on the BBC website.

I thought maybe it is a brain op to sort out his bushisms. Or Maybe his eyes to sort out his bushisms. Or Maybe it is something to do with his speech to sort out his bushisms. after i click on the link, I found it was a colonoscopy. Probably to sort out his bushisms as he always has talked out his arse!!!

Alan Johnston was released YAY.

I been waiting to hear about it for months although i feared the worst each time i opened the bbc news in the morning.

I doubt that the government will thank Hamas though as israel may frown upon that, and you know what our government is like with israel. "yeah bomb a country, we won't condemn it"

Just found out that the lesbians that I have been talking to for the past month in the chatrooms are not actually lesbians. When asked why i thought that, i said that they just acted like an old married couple. To be fair they ended up being best mates.

Got hit by an msn virus, sorry to all who got affected by it. luckily most people were more sensible than me.

Yep still as bad as updating but I will make it all up by giving you a magic eye that just made me laugh out loud.

It is more likely to be funnier for the St Andrews people, especially those from the sinner chatroom.

Was gonna do a poll on it but forgot i have not renewed my account yet. whoops

I went to the chinese supermarket on tuesday. It was rather amusing as I was the only westerner there. Well they might of been other westerners but I was the only white guy. It is weird that I will use the term westerner more than i use the term white.

Really enjoying being back in the chatrooms. I only have been in for a few days or so and it feels like slipping into an old boot. everyone I used to know has gone but that is not surprising with the absence of 7/8 years. Some terms have also gone, maybe i will try and reintroduce them.

It is weird that despite the people that i used to know have gone, there are still the same type of people there. Just goes to show everyone is replaceable, and so no doubt that in 7/8 years those people will be gone and will be replaced.

The trouble with getting to know people is that the more regulars you know, the more you have to say hi when they come in. Not too bad if they come in as it is when you come in and everyone is there.

On Friday we find out the date that the new machine willl be mmoved into the department, which is good news. I may however still drive up to scotland once a month to see people.

I have the plumber and the electrician coming today to sort out the last couple of problems with the flat. The extractor fan doesn't work but i forgot to log it and can't be bothered talking to the answering machine again. I phoned british gas last night and sorted out my gas and electric. The weird thing was that I thought it was going to take ages for an answer. By the time i put in the number and put it to my ear, I heard "-ritish gas" and it was a person, not a silly recording "Welcome to british gas, your call is important to us and that is why we are making you call an 0845 number and keeping back the options as long as possible to infuriate you more. For a long queue, press one now, for a longer queue press 2 now, for a superlong queue press three, for any other enquiries, please hold and skip these queues."

Afterall, i have noticed that if you hold, you do get seen quicker as most people want to joing the spoecific queue to get through quicker but as everyone thinks that then it won't be.

I should get better at posting now as I have broadband at the flat. I am now officially only resident in one flat. Off to St Andrews tomorrow, what a fun drive.

I wrote a big entry about Eurovision and the flat and I hit post on the tool bar rather than the button. Then i clicked Cancel for the saved draft thinking it would go back. so entry is lost.

Entry in breif: a coupole of folk are coming round to watch Eurovision. Moving out of the Kensington Flat on Tuesday. needing to fgo to new flat to see if response on note about allocated parking space. got a new USB stick as the other one died.

Edit: Went to the flat and the guy had been borrowing the car space so has given it to me along with the fob. Unfortunately noticed that the hot water tap in the kitchen does not work so mentioned that when i called. Still no word on the washing machine

Wed, May. 9th, 2007 09:32 am

This is the song that is stuck in my head at the moment. Sang to the tune of "she'll be coming round the mountain when she comes". Not sure if someone could sing it for Eurovision but it would definitely win.

Hope you enjoy it

I tackled the oven door on saturday, took about four hours of on and off scrubbing (while i did other tidying bits in nthe flat, but now I can actually see inside the oven door. I gave Romain a shout for lunch and we went to Tokyou (japanese noodle bar) which is a fantastic place to eat. We are probably going to get a delivery from them to eat during Eurovision next saturday. The person who apparently cleaned the flat called me in the afternoon. She insisted that the flat was cleaned, and despite me knowing that was not the case, I just said that all i could say what I have found. She offered to come out next saturday but I said to forget about it as I would do it myself.

Sunday I finished off the rest of the door. I know I said I finished it before but this time I unscrewed it and tackled the O-ring (rubber seal)and the gunk that was around the side. I also unpacked most things too after bringing my bookcase. I also gave my dad a call from my landline using the cheap codes so that it would only cost me a penny a minute to the US.

Monday was a bank holiday, So I did some work for Wuzong before heading to the flat and attacking the Grills in the oven. They were Black and it took me around 60-90 minutes to get just one side gleaming metalically. I finished off the unpacking in the flat and started going through some flat documnets.

I then find a mention of a parking space and that the allocated space was E. I checked out back and sure enough in the secure back area there is a parking space E. However, two problems 1. I do not have a security Fob to get entry to this area and 2. there is a car parked in that space. I did find out who was parking in this area so I can go and see him once i check with the estate agents if it is true. Hopefully he will be fine about giving up the space if it does belong to my flat.

Today, hopefully the plumber will ring and they can fix my washing machine. I do have a meeting with matt to go over the 5 hour meeting minutes so I think I will have a lot to do after that.

Anyway better go and send the estate agents an email.

hope all is well guys

The Flat wasn't cleaned before I went in on saturday. I thought the major thing was the the fridge/freezer had not been cleaned and were left on. So on Sunday, I went in with the camera to take pictures before I did clean, and opened up the cooker to find the window did not appear to be doing what it says because it had so much grime on it. If i thought the Oven was bad, I then saw the washing machine, Black water on the inside. YUCK

I was really apprehensive about opening up the deep fat fryer, but it was brand spankingly clean inside.

About to phone the estate agents just now

Fri, Apr. 27th, 2007 04:57 pm

Signed the lease today and got the keys. I also got paid so woohoo.

Still humming and hawing over the Wii as there are a lot more stock in at the moment

Thu, Apr. 26th, 2007 09:04 am
So I may be moving into my new flat on friday. Did you know the bank charges you £45 for a Credit Check? Daylight robbery and they then take ten days to actually get round to it, I wish I could just deal with cash. I had to print out six months of statements to speed things up at the estate agents.

Now I am hoping that the flat will be nice and clean as promised. I may see about packing some things up tonight.

Sat, Apr. 21st, 2007 06:35 pm
my journal is dying here, I am getting so bad at updating, going from normally once a day, down to a couple of entries a week, now this is my only second post of the month. I may pick up a bit soon, maybe when i move into the new place as i probably will get internet there.

So what is happening with myself? well I am currently trying to work out what to do once I have finished this contract in at most a years time. However, rather than taking things away they are adding in oppurtunities.

I had planned on either postdocing or do teacher training. then a third option came about after talking to Simon and that was to work at a TEM company. This became my third option and i thought that was ok since I would not need to do too much for it, just carry on using the TEM, which was also the case for the postdocing.

one of the things about postdocing is that the contracts are very small. Wuzong has gave me a fourth option and that is to apply for a fellowship from a research council. This will require some effort and thoughts.

Anyway who knows, i will decide later

Wed, Apr. 4th, 2007 08:21 am

TV has been great in my house, normally supplemented by DVDs.

I had a Firefly weekend watching a disc at a time. I started on the second disc as I had watched the first disc over last week. I was like, disc two is my favourite disc because they are one of my favourite sets of episodes. When i went to disc three, I was like, disc three is my favourite disc cause they are one of my favourite sets of episodes. needless to say, it is all good. On a linked note Serenity bet star wars in an SFX poll, ROCK ON!!!!

Anyway, we also had Dr Who starting on the saturday evening. Also I have heard that a fantastic bit of news that john simm will be playing erm...I mean Mister SaxonCollapse ), I wonder if he will say "I am not a number. John Simm is currently on Life on Mars.

Which leads me on to Life on Mars, it was the second last episode last night and next week it will be the last ever episode. They don't want to drag it on for a long time so they are finishing it. This tends to happen a lot with british series and it is good because it ends on a high.

If the american version of Life on Mars goes ahead, and they just do one of the usual season lengths then it is going to have more episodes than the british version. Apparently the british version is on BBC america.

The apprentice is on tonight so will be watching that. then not got a clue about the easter weekend what i am doing as the building closes here.

You can see the pictures from Calum and Charlotte's Day of Fun in my bebo album.

There was no brass band at the prom, but there was lots of welsh stuff. In a way it was like walking through a portal through time. You could get Giant pencils (remember in primary when you were not allowed to use pens and you thought you could become really rich if you invented the giant pencil sharpener because no one had yet? no that must have been just me), combs with holders with the standard names, silly joke products, the list goes on.....

What was really fantastic though was we were able to go to a Billy Lal's bargain shop. After all, you have to go to a Billy Lal on a day trip to the beach. This really catered for the main population of Llandudno, as it had knickers the size of a fortune tellers tent at a circus. After all they do have to be pulled up to your armpits, I think that is where the original idea of the sling bikini came from, they just cut bits of material out of it.

We went to chester afterwards and met up with one of Charlotte's friends, before charlotte tried to spray a frappaccino on my nice white shirt from across the room. I can't even remember why? it was something said but I have forgotten now. We also had a game of "hunt the welsh oatcakes" which was also called "hunt the Nougat" which was also called "hunt the cookery book" before heading back to liverpool way.

Tue, Mar. 20th, 2007 08:55 am
Well I ended up driving down on Sunday night due to problems on saturday (long story). This however meant that I was driving through the Rain, hail, sleet and snow as well as the high winds. The drive once again was very boring.

Really need to give the flat a clean. I was going to do it but wanted to watch collatoral, which was a rather decent film. Both Tom cruise and Jamie Foxx were very good in it and there is a cool scene with a wolf (not the one from gladiators but the animal)

Fri, Mar. 16th, 2007 09:04 pm

Called Ben a wee while ago and he says the Freezer is fine

Top stuff as i did have a lot in there. now I got to eat it all and i think i will defrost the freezer to get rid of the icicles now and give it a good clean as I never got a chance when i moved in.

I probably could have fixed it myself but i wanted to make sure it did not flood if the thermostat had went.

I just realised that i never told you about the freezer in the last entry. nevermind all is ok now so it does not matter.

Fri, Mar. 16th, 2007 07:56 am

Nearly posted an empty entry as i hit return as if I was writing an email, lucky LJ does not allow it

Waiting for the TEM to ramp up at the minute. I have decided on what sample I am going to look at first which is good and then I just need to decide on what other ones to look at next. I have 12 negatives so hopefully I will be able to finish them by the end of the day and so I can develop them.

I had a dream about flying last night, although when i dream about flying it is not flying exactly but more of a sort of hovering/levitation. I think if i was actually flying then that would be less dream logical as my dream logic comes up on why it is possible to hover. I can't remember it exactly now but it has something to do with the wind (no i don't mean farting). I think it comes from when you are walking and a strong wind blows behind you, your walking speed increases. that does mean however that you can not hover into the wind and my dream logic would have made that impossible.

I am going to Stay at gemmas on friday and saturday as she now has a spare key. Gemma is away at Aberdeen but said it was fine for me to stay there. right enough, all i need the flat for is to sleep and have a shower in the morning. I do plan to stop before 10pm tonight as TopGear speacial is on tonight because of comic releif.

This is now my fifth month of travelling up to use the microscope in St Andrews and the 4/5 hour drive is losing its novelty value. I feel I only have just got back to liverpool before I am heading up again. I was thinking about taking the week of the 9th off, and coming up to scotland, and finishing it with working on the microscope at the end of the week as the university closes down on the 6th (good friday) and the 9th (easter monday), but then I worked out that I would only have been back down for two weekends in liverpool before travelling back up, which put me off doing that.

Busy time when i get back, I will see Greg on the sunday and then monday I'll travel back to liverpool, Tuesday morning, analysing results, the afternoon I am helping one of the students on the TEM. wednesday more analysing and studying the safety handbook for the pop quiz on friday (due to the fire) and then thursday I will be back on the TEM to do some more samples. As far as I know I don't have anything planned for the following week but will need to have a meeting with Matt which i will have to arrange.

Anyway better prepare the first sampleas i have about 7 minutes before the TEM finishes ramping.

Whenever I go to update this thing, the internet always cuts out and when it comes back on I can not be bothered. The Birmingham meeting went ok, not had a word with the Cheif about it yet so don't know if he will be happy or not. unlikely to have a word with him before I head st andrews way now anyway.

Been really bored at the minute. Can't be bothered to do anything, not even sleep. I read a couple of books on the weekend, watched a couple of films but nothing really got me out of it. Yesterday I was into work at 7 (an hour earlier than normal) and the same with today as i was up at 5. Couldn't be bothered watching telly last night so figured i would go to bed early so was in bed by 9 and just lay there until sleep took me. Luckily it is still getting dark at around 7pm otherwise i would probably get less sleep.

What an update, once aghain hope you all are well.

Tue, Mar. 6th, 2007 09:05 am
Once again I mention how bad i have been at updating, but once again I cannot think of anything to say. Maybe I am running out of things to put on this journal or just running out of time.

That said, all things are well. I have just realised that next week I am back up to St Andrews. I am at Daresbury this evening, then on the microscope this thursday followed by Birmingham on Friday.

Another person from school has contacted me through Bebo. This person is someone I haven't talked to in about 10ish years but we used to be Kitchen buddies in Home Ec. normally because the partners we shared our desks with were hardly ever in.

hope all is well with you guys

I was walking back last night from the pub when I was propositioned by a prostitute. The conversation went something like this as I walked along.
Pro: You looking for Business?
Me: No, sorry
Pro (follows me): I'll give you a blow job for a tenner
Me: Sorry, I am not interested
Pro: It's only a tenner
Me: Sorry, I am going home
Pro: It will only take a minute and then you can go home
Me: No thanks
Pro: You have a nice arse
Me: that may be but I don't have a tenner
Pro: okay (crosses road)

I was wanting to say after the nice arse comment "What is having a nice arse got to do with giving me a blow job?" but then she might have thought she was getting somewhere. She also didn't sell herself that well with saying that it would only take a minute, then again maybe she was selling herself very well saying that it would only take a minute. Just thinking about it, it could be seen as an insult to me that it would only take a minute.

Pretty hungry just now so might go home to have some dinner soon.

Thu, Feb. 22nd, 2007 02:46 pm

Dot mobile phoned me yesterday. They said that I can keep with them despite no longer being a student and to check out details for the contract extension, and since i am a preferred customer (read that i paid my bill on time)

Checked their website, If I don't choose a new phone then I can get 11 months free line rental on a 18 month contract (£20 a month). If i get a new phone it would be 6 months free line rental. Once again it is in Units rather than seperate minutes and texts which i prefer, so will probably stick with them.

Will try and decide what i want to do and do it by the end of the week. Part of me wants to keep the phone that I have as there is not a decent Nokia flip phone available, despite my current one having a cracked front display. The other part of me is to upgrade for one that does not have a cracked display. although i would have to change to motorolla and although i have lots of nokia chargers (downside) I do get 7 hours of talk time for the battery rather than 3 hours.

If i don't go for the mobile, I would only pay £140 for a year and a half, whereas if I do go for the phone it would be £240 for a year and a half.

Wed, Feb. 21st, 2007 08:40 am
So it has been a while since I last posted. I am back in Liverpool after my february trip to St Andrews. I have printed out the final copy of my thesis and submitted to the bindery. The six copies should then be passed to Wuzong. Gemma will then pass one copy to the university. Yes that is right, only one copy. I only found out that now you have to hand in one paper copy and one electronic copy after i was halfway through my printing. The university never told me and i found out by accident.

On the sunday I met up with Kenny and Nerissa, so was embarassing Kenny with all the tales of what he was like at school, including how he used to carry a big book about a ragged trouser Philanthropist to even out his school bag in sixth year. Afterwards, I went up and saw Greg and Lucy, Lucy is learning colours at the moment, so that was fun, although i did correct a bit which i am not sure if it is the done thing for a 2 year old.

After Lucy was put in bed, me and Greg chatted and then watched Superman returns. I am still not sure what to make of it, i didn't feel it was anything special, although it did make several nods to the original and the guy who played superman was very like christopher reeve's superman. There was holes, well actually chasms, in the plot as a lot of it did not make sense.

Travelled back down to Liverpool on Monday and have just been working.
